Jaciento Cox

Executive Director

Jaciento  Cox is an Oakland native with a B.A. degree from Howard University. He previously worked as a media instructor at Life Academy High School in East Oakland and  Mcclymonds High School in West Oakland, Ca. Jaciento Cox is well rounded in youth engagement with youth all over Oakland. His goal was to design a program that would expand possibilities of youth engagement with cognitive learning modules that integrate media & art into high schools as well as everyday life. Jaciento is continuously driven to implement obsolete modules that bring fun and excitement back to our communities and high schools by giving the youth a chance to learn/create while working as a team. He also wants to give back to the community by honoring his father Bruce Cox, who was a co-founder and  Executive Director of the Alliance for West Oakland  Development. Bruce Cox dedicated his time and efforts into reforming and restructuring the narrative for at risk youth. In 2006 he started the Alliance Construction Training Program through AWOD to give locals in the community a chance to work on new project developments in West Oakland. He sacrificed a lot to see change. Sadly Bruce Cox passed away in 2018, and his son Jaciento Cox was voted in as the Executive Director to continue the legacy that Bruce Cox built, by keeping AWOD going strong in years to come.
