AWOD CONSTRUCTION TRAINING PROGRAM
The Alliance for West Oakland Development created the Alliance Construction Training Program in 2006. This program was designed to address the growing concerns in the community regarding rising crime and high recidivism rates. The program targets at risk youth, high school students and men and women who are seeking support to reintegrate successfully back into society, by learning basic construction trades.
Our training program includes classroom and onsite instruction. We cover construction development skills, proper job etiquette, character building, interview readiness, life skills and mentorship toward a career in the Construction industry. Onsite training will take place on local housing developments, in which students are able to earn a paid stipend every two weeks. In addition, we provide opportunities for participants to interact and gain knowledge through informational seminars, workshops, community engagement and media production. These components are designed for residents to actively participate in the vitality and development of their own communities.
